Which direction are you going?

Since I want to make sure everything goes smoothly, I have a personality type that likes to plan, organize, and analyze different angles on the steps we need to take to get to southern Nevada.

To stick with my personality type, the last couple of days, I have started mapping out the direction we will take on the great move so we can plan for hotel stays and the correct roads to take since I’ll be leading the caravan of minivan and moving truck.  My wonderful dad will be driving the truck so since he just turned 70, I want to make sure it won’t be too hard on him and my mother, his truck companion.

Yeah, our plans may get off track with the unexpected; however, we will need to keep God in these plans as He helps direct us back to the right track.

Yeah, if you’re like me, you’re afraid that if you go in the “wrong” direction, you’ll never recover.  After all, not every way is easy and yet there will be difficult ways as well which is why we are praying for the right direction on this journey.

Yeah, we may get several tips and may hear different voices telling us which direction to go so we’re consulting the experts like our friend who has been down that way quite a bit in the last 20 some years.

Therefore, when you get many voices telling you what to do, you usually  listen to advice from the person who knows more about the topic or the one who wants the best for you.

The voice that wants the best for you is God; after all, Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) reads:  “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

With this promise in mind, we are listening to that voice who knows the plans even as I carefully map out the directions and plan for the great move.

After all, according to Psalms 19:7-9 (MSG):

The revelation of God is whole

    and pulls our lives together.

The signposts of God are clear

and point out the right road.

The life-maps of God are right,

    showing the way to joy.

The directions of God are plain

    and easy on the eyes.

God’s reputation is twenty-four-carat gold,

    with a lifetime guarantee.

The decisions of God are accurate

    down to the nth degree.

I am learning in my latest class, that it is drawing close to God and knowing Him in order to discern His voice from the other voices.

After all, according to Psalms 25:9-10 (NIV):

He guides the humble in what is right

    and teaches them his way.

All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful

toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.

What voice are you listening to?  Do you know how to discern the voice of God from all the others?  Which map are you reading as you plan out your life?  Who are you letting guide your steps?

Please feel free to comment with what you think.
